Kaplan, Mordecai Menahem
(11 jun. 1881, Švenc̣ionys, Lituania–8 nov. 1983, Nueva York, N.Y., EE.UU.).

Teólogo estadounidense de origen lituano. Llegó a EE.UU. con su familia en 1889. Ordenado en el Jewish Theological Seminary (Seminario teológico judío), luego enseñó allí durante 50 años. En 1916 organizó el Jewish Center (Centro judío) en Nueva York como una organización comunitaria secular con una sinagoga como núcleo. En 1922 fundó la Society for the Advancement of Judaism (Sociedad para el fomento del judaísmo), que se convirtió en el corazón del reconstruccionismo. Negó la exactitud literal de la Biblia y llamó a una nueva concepción de Dios en un intento de adaptar el judaísmo al mundo moderno. Fundó la revista The Reconstructionist en 1935; entre sus libros figuran Judaísmo como civilización (1934) y Judaism without Superstition (1958).
